The pervading aesthetic of amigurumi is cuteness (kawaii). Typical amigurumi animals have an over-sized spherical head on a cylindrical body with undersized extremities.

Hal
My name is Hal. I can't fall asleep with the TV on. I have to have complete silence. It has to be really dark in the room too.
My mom taught the basics of sewing, knitting and crochet when I was a little girl growing up in Germany, but I was mediocre at best. I excelled at scarves and other square/rectangle shaped things. Unfortunately there is not a huge market for blah potholders.
I first saw amigurumi online and thought it looked like something I could do. I taught myself by watching youtube videos and experimenting with different patterns until I got the hang of it. I started making amigurumi monsters in October 2009 after discovering cute amis weren't my thing.
